A short working week, more than half of Italians would like an extra day off

The short week, a reality approved in many European countries and the subject of a proposed law in our country, is also at the top of Italian workers’ wishes

More time for yourself and social life, more productivity and also less greenhouse gas emissions: Italians wholeheartedly advocate a short work week. In fact, 55% of our workers would be willing to take an extra day off, even if they were to earn less, a percentage that rises to 62% in the 25-34 age group.

A report that undoubtedly reflects the idea of ​​a quality of life that has almost completely changed, especially after the pandemic: 63% of people have developed new expectations (including the prospect of a short week) about work after the lockdown period. The percentage rises to 70% in the 25-34 age group and even 77% among new workers (18-24).

More free time, but not only that. Today, people are primarily looking for a good salary (61%), which is a priority element of the middle age groups 24-35 and 35-44, but also fair treatment of employees (58%) and a pleasant and stimulating work environment (58%). Flexibility and smart work are taken almost for granted by the younger groups of workers, while the more mature ones see them as an advantage, but one that is becoming essential for workers in the tertiary sector.

But why is a short week a desire? Reasons include:
